Ithaca College's Department of Accounting, offered through the Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise, focuses on providing students with small classes and performance-based learning. The five-year accounting program (four year Bachelor of Science, one year Master of Business Arts) at Ithaca College puts emphasis on developing valuable intellectual skills such as leadership, computer applications, speaking, research, writing, and job-search. Students also have opportunities to gain extensive interpersonal and professional skills through study abroad programs or by earning one of the many degree minors offered through the business school. As of 2008, all business students at Ithaca College are required to fulfill a "field work experience" requirement which consists of a 35-hour, off-campus experience designed to expose students to practical work experience in their chosen field of specialization.. Top accounting students compete in the annual Central New York Accounting Challenge which has been won by Ithaca's team several times. An annual field trip, usually to a major metropolitan area, offers accounting majors the chance to visit the New York Stock Exchange, meet alumni, or hear from top corporate executives. Ithaca College's fifth-year accounting students participate in the Volunteers in Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides tax assistance to low-income residents. During Spring break VITA students may also travel to Alaska to provide tax services to native Alaskans in remote villages.

In their junior year at Illinois Wesleyan University, accounting students hold a full-time internship for ten weeks at an accounting firm and then return to campus for a six week intensive of business courses where students analyze their internship experiences. Accounting students can join the IWU Accounting society to expand their professional network.

Students fulfill requirements in liberal arts as well as economics, finance, business, and elective courses for a broad, educational range. Muhlenberg College uses a course system intended to highlight the mastery of subject matter, instead of a credit system that measures achievement based on time spent in class. Courses are an entire learning experience, which may include computer work, group projects, lectures, discussions, recitation, and instruction. A typical full-time accounting student is enrolled in four class units per semester, which includes four courses, the activities those courses encompass, and the hours students spend studying outside of the classroom. Accounting courses cover written and oral communication, analysis of data, global issues, evaluation of ethical dilemmas, and the use of information technology for communicating financial information.

Ascend is a Pan-Asian professional organization that provides exposure to hiring firms and $60,000 in scholarships annually. Temple University's chapter of Ascend is open to students of all ethnic backgrounds.
