The undergraduate accounting program at Colorado State University’s College of Business is designed to produce competent accounting professionals who are leaders in their field.

Accounting students receive a strong foundation in the liberal arts, and then focus on business and accounting coursework as their education progresses. In the interest of preparing students for successful accounting careers, the state-of-the-art curriculum makes an effort to stay abreast of the constantly-evolving professional landscape. Completion of the program also fulfills the education requirement for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in Colorado — although students hoping to practice in other states will require additional education.

Located in Fort Collins, a large college town situated beneath the Rocky Mountain foothills, the school offers the business opportunities of a big city while maintaining the communal atmosphere of a small town. The College of Business encourages students to take advantage of the school’s secure relationships with local business and industrial firms by pursuing an internship as a part of their academic plan.

Career and placement
The College of Business has partnered with the University’s Career Center to provide students with numerous internship and employment opportunities. In addition to hosting frequent networking events and other extracurricular events, the college has integrated outside professionals into the academic curriculum, encouraging them to participate in classes. As a result of the school’s solid relationships with top firms and corporations, more than 300 employers visit the Colorado State campus each year to recruit business graduates.

Like all departments within the College of Business, the accounting department has a designated faculty member who coordinates student internships. The internship coordinator assists accounting majors with all aspects of the internship process, from searching for a site to sending application materials. Though they aren’t required, internships offer many advantages, including the opportunity to receive real-world experience — some even provide real world wages. Many internship sites end up hiring Colorado State business interns for permanent positions, lending to an impressive job placement rate among graduates.

Additionally, the school’s Career Center offers a host of resources to assist with students’ professional development, including:
