Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business as one of the nation's top business schools. The Elon Department of Accounting, within the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, has six learning objectives for accounting majors. These objectives outline the principal goals and skills that graduates of the Elon Department of Accounting will possess. These six qualities include; each graduate will demonstrate an understanding of fundamental accounting concepts and principles, demonstrate the ability to articulate and apply concepts and principles, demonstrate the ability to evaluate standard accounting practices in a variety of business settings, demonstrate the ability to integrate principles for the purpose of aiding in business decision-making, demonstrate an understanding of the role accounting plays in global business environment, and demonstrate the ability to develop and apply technology. The National Survey of Student Engagement recognizes Elon University among the nation's most effective universities in promoting hands-on learning. The Elon Department of Accounting requires every graduating accounting major to complete an assessment exam in the spring of their senior year to measure the student's retention of material covered in their accounting courses. All business majors are required to complete an internship as an undergraduate at Elon.
