The Elon Department of Accounting, within the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, has six learning objectives for accounting majors. These objectives outline the principal goals and skills that graduates of the Elon Department of Accounting will possess. These six qualities include; each graduate will demonstrate an understanding of fundamental accounting concepts and principles, demonstrate the ability to articulate and apply concepts and principles, demonstrate the ability to evaluate standard accounting practices in a variety of business settings, demonstrate the ability to integrate principles for the purpose of aiding in business decision-making, demonstrate an understanding of the role accounting plays in global business environment, and demonstrate the ability to develop and apply technology. The National Survey of Student Engagement recognizes Elon University among the nation's most effective universities in promoting hands-on learning. The Elon Department of Accounting requires every graduating accounting major to complete an assessment exam in the spring of their senior year to measure the student's retention of material covered in their accounting courses. All business majors are required to complete an internship as an undergraduate at Elon.

The first is the traditional Bachelor of Science in Accounting which is for accounting majors who wish to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in their last semester. The second choice is the Forensic Accounting degree which is for students who prefer investigative accounting and prepares students for the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) exam in their last semester as undergraduates. At Guilford College Experiential Education - a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage their students in direct experiences and focused reflection in order to develop skills, knowledge, and values - is the foundation of all classroom experiences. Guilford College also emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning by providing many study abroad opportunities for undergraduates and over 1/3 of students participate in study abroad programs. Guilford College has been included in Princeton Review's "Best Colleges" edition for the past 18 years.

Tull School of Accounting consistently have the some of the highest scores on the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam at two and a half to three times higher than the national average. Tull School of Accounting places strong emphasis on national service and the faculty is known for setting high standards in the classroom. Internships are not required, but are strongly encouraged. University of Georgia undergraduates may apply for admission to the graduate school during their senior year and typically complete the Master of Accounting in only one additional academic year.

Accounting majors in Washington & Jefferson College's Economics and Business Department learn accounting in a liberal arts environment. As students are prepared for careers in public accounting, the importance of ethical considerations and the significance of the interdisciplinary nature of societal problems are emphasized. Critical thinking and analytical abilities as well as verbal and written communication skills are stressed in the curriculum. The department encourages accounting majors to obtain an internship while they are undergraduates at Washington & Jefferson College, though it is not mandatory. Washington & Jefferson College has added $100 million dollars in new facilities since 2002, and ninety percent of undergraduates live on campus.
